Case Studies

- Case Study One

In 1976, ex-Beatle George Harrison was found guilty of copyright infringement for his hit single, "My Sweet Lord." Bright Tunes Music Corporation had obtained the copyright for the 1963 hit, "He's So Fine," which was written by Ronald Mack and originally performed by The Chiffons. Did George Harrison borrow his musical ideas from Mack's hit song?

I listened to the songs and came up with the following outcomes:
Rating System: Barely the same
Harmony: barely the same
Rythym: Very Similar
Lyrics: Somewhat alike
Instruments: Barely the same

The two songs both have similar back up singers, vocals, layout of lyrics and they are both about the same subject.
On the other hand the womans vocals are very different, "hes so fine".

Electronic Artists

Cory Arcangel
Cory Arcangel (born 1978) is a digital artist who lives and works in Brooklyn. His work is concerned with the relationship between technology and culture, and with media appropriation.
Arcangel talks about his early collaborations with Paul B. Davis as being very important to the development of his own work. In 1998 they founded BEIGE, a programming ensemble with other friends from Oberlin Conservatory.
Arcangel's work has appeared in many museum exhibitions, including a solo exhibition at the Migros Museum in Zurich, MOMA's Color Chart, the 2004 Whitney Biennial, and has also been exhibited in the New Museum and MCA Chicago among other museums. His work is included in public collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Miami Art Museum, Migro Museum, and Neue Nationalgalerie. Arcangel is represented by Team Galley in New York, Galerie Ropac in Paris and Salzburg, Max Wigram in London, and Galerie Guy Bartschi in Geneva.

Wafaa Bilal
Iraqi born Wafaa Bilal has become known for provocative interactive video installations. Many of Bilal's projects over the past few years have addressed the dichotomy of the virtual vs. the real. He attempts to keep in mind the relationship of the viewer to the artwork, one of his main objectives being to transform the normally passive experience of viewing art into an active participation. Bilal's objective is to raise awareness of virtual war and privacy, or lack thereof, in the digital age.
